Learn how to slip cast in porcelain and decorate your pieces with ceramic designer Alex Allday in her studio at Middleport Pottery.
During this 1 day workshop you will spend the morning learning the process of slip casting using plaster moulds to cast your own Stem Vase and tealights/planter pots in porcelain. You will have the opportunity to cast 5 pieces.
After lunch you will then learn how to decorate your casted pieces with a variety of different surface decoration techniques using coloured slips, stains and different tools to create sgraffito, textures and patterns. To finish you will be shown how to fettle/ clean up all of your finished pieces ready to be fired.

I will be able to safely deliver this workshop at a 1m + distance by doing all demonstrations on my own workbench and you will carry out the workshop on your own table with your own tools and equipment. Masks, gloves and disposable aprons will be supplied if you would like them and there are hand washing facilities available in the studio with disposable paper towels.
All abilities welcome and you do not need to have prior knowledge and experience in ceramics. With keeping it to a small group, you will each get one on one support and guidance throughout the workshop.

Your pieces will be fired after the workshop and will be ready to collect from my studio the following week. I can post them out to you at an additional cost to cover P&P
Lunch isn’t provided but there is a café on site or you are more than welcome to bring your own.
Tea’s, Coffee’s and refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop.
Aprons will be provided but wear old clothes and shoes

If you have any particular designs, patterns and objects for inspiration that you want to work from please bring them along.

Join Ceramic Designer Alex Allday in her studio at Middleport Pottery for a half-day vase decorating workshop.
You will learn how to decorate your own porcelain stem vase with a variety of surface decoration techniques and processes using coloured slips, stains and different tools to create sgraffito, textures and patterns. To finish you will be shown how to fettle/ clean up your vase ready to be fired.
Vases will be ready slip casted for you to work straight on to and you will be able to practise your designs and these techniques before decorating your vase.
